Original Item: Only One Available. The British Household Cavalry is made up of the two most senior regiments in the British Army, the Life Guards and the Horse Guards. As the name implies, they are cavalry regiments, which today only ride horses in a ceremonial fashion, but during the Victorian Era they were real mounted cavalry. This horse bit is from that period, and is exactly what they would have used when taking the field.

The bit has the correct brass rosette badges on either side, which show the intertwined VR monogram under a "Queen's Crown", for Queen Victoria. This indicates pre 1876 issue, as after becoming the Empress of India in 1876, the VRI monogram was used. Around the monogram is the Household Cavalry motto: HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE ("Shame on anyone who thinks evil of it").

Totally original, still covered in 150 years of rust stained patina, and measuring7 ¾” x 6 ¼” x 3. Completely usable if so desired. Impressive and ready to display!
